The StiqNote MCP server

The StiqNote MCP server lets an AI tool work with your team's website feedback. Ask it to "fix the open bugs on the pricing page", and it can read each comment with its element, logs and suggested CSS, change your code, and resolve the thread with a note.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard way AI tools connect to other services. StiqNote's server runs on your own machine and talks to StiqNote with an API key.

Works with

Any MCP client that can run a local (stdio) server, including:

  • Claude Code
  • Claude Desktop
  • Cursor
  • VS Code with an MCP-capable assistant
  • Windsurf

Set it up

1. Create an API key

In the StiqNote sidebar, open Settings → You → AI agents and API and click Create key. Give it a name ("Cursor on my laptop") and click Create key. Copy it now: it's shown once.

One key works for all your projects: by default it reaches every team and project you're an owner or member of, ones you join later too. To limit it, pick Only these and tick teams or single projects. A key acts as you.

2. Add the server to your AI tool

The server runs with npx, so you need Node.js 18 or later. Nothing else to install.

Claude Code: run this in a terminal, with your key in place of snk_…:

claude mcp add stiqnote --env STIQNOTE_API_KEY=snk_… -- npx -y stiqnote mcp

Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf and most other clients take a JSON block. Add it to the client's MCP config (Claude Desktop: Settings → Developer → Edit Config, which opens claude_desktop_config.json; Cursor: .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "stiqnote": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "stiqnote", "mcp"],
      "env": {
        "STIQNOTE_API_KEY": "snk_…"
      }
    }
  }
}

VS Code uses the same block in .vscode/mcp.json, with servers in place of mcpServers.

Restart the client, or reload its MCP servers, and StiqNote shows up with its tools.

The server reads the key from STIQNOTE_API_KEY. If you've run stiqnote auth <key> with the CLI, it's saved in ~/.stiqnote/config.json and you can leave out the env part.

3. Ask

Try: "List the pages with open StiqNote feedback", or "Work through the open suggestions on staging.example.com and mark each one applied."

Several projects

The agent finds the project by the page's address, so most of the time you don't name one. Each tool that works on a page or project also takes an optional project: a project's name (any case) or its id, as whoami lists them. When a page is in two of your projects, or the key reaches several and the site is new, the tool answers with the list of projects and asks to call again with project. list_pages groups pages by team and project.

What the agent can and can't see

  • It sees the comments in every team and project the key reaches, as the key's owner would, including guests' comments.
  • A team on Free answers "needs Pro" for its projects; the key keeps working for your paid teams.
  • It never sees private notes.
  • Its replies show under your name, and notify the team like any other reply.
  • Revoke a key in Settings → AI agents and API and it stops working at once.

Questions

Which plan do I need?

Pro or Agency, for each team the agent works in.

Does the MCP server send my code to StiqNote?

No. It only reads and writes StiqNote comments. Your code stays with your AI tool.

StiqNote doesn't show up in my AI tool

Check three things. Node.js 18 or later is installed (node -v in a terminal). The key is pasted in full, starting with snk_, and hasn't been revoked. And the client was restarted after you changed its config. Most clients show the server's error in their MCP log: "No API key" means the key didn't reach it.

Can I use the API without MCP?

Yes. The same features are available through the /v1 API and the stiqnote command-line tool. See feedback for AI agents.
