API keys, the CLI and the MCP server

Updated 27 October 2026

The API, the CLI and the MCP server are on Pro and Agency. They all use an API key.

#One key for all your projects

A key is yours, not a team's. By default it reaches every team and project you're an owner or member of, including the ones you join later. It acts as you: it can do what you can, and it never sees private notes. If you leave a team, or become a guest there, the key stops reaching it at once.

#Create a key

  1. Open the sidebar, then Settings → You → AI agents and API.
  2. Click Create key and type a Name, such as "Cursor on my laptop".
  3. Under What it reaches, keep All your teams and projects, or pick Only these (below).
  4. Click Create key, copy the key and click Done. It won't be shown again.

The list shows every key you have, what each one reaches and when it was last used.

#Limit a key to some teams or projects

Pick Only these and tick what the key may use:

  • Tick a team to give it all of that team's projects, new ones too.
  • Tick single projects to give it only those.

Teams where you're a guest aren't listed, because guests can't use keys. You can tick a Free team, but its calls answer "needs Pro" until the team upgrades. The key's row says so in amber.

To change it later, click Edit next to the key.

#Revoke a key

Click Edit next to the key, then Revoke key. It stops working at once.

#When the agent needs to know the project

The agent finds the project by the page's address. If the same page is in two of your projects, or it's a new site and the key reaches several projects, it asks which one. Then it calls again with the project option: the project's name (any case) or its id. whoami lists the teams and projects a key reaches.

#Connect an AI tool (MCP)

The MCP server runs with npx, so you need Node.js 18 or later. In Claude Code, run:

claude mcp add stiqnote --env STIQNOTE_API_KEY=snk_… -- npx -y stiqnote mcp

Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and most other clients take a JSON block instead. MCP setup has it for each client, and the list of tools.

#Use the CLI

Install it with npm install -g stiqnote, then:

stiqnote auth <api-key> Save your key
stiqnote pages List pages with comments
stiqnote comments --url https://example.com A page's comments
stiqnote reply <comment-id> "Fixed in #42" Reply in a thread
stiqnote resolve <comment-id> Resolve a thread
stiqnote mcp Start the MCP server

stiqnote comments also takes --status, --unresolved, --project and --json. stiqnote pages takes --project, and groups pages by team and project when your key reaches more than one. resolve takes --reopen, or --status for another status. stiqnote whoami shows what your key reaches.

#The API

The /v1 API covers pages, comments, search, members, replies and updates, with the key as a bearer token. Pass project_id (or the X-Project-Id header) to pick a project. Email support@stiqnote.com for the list of endpoints if you want to build on it.
