Pins, areas and comments on text
StiqNote has three ways to say "this". All three are on every plan.
#Pins: one element
Press Shift+C (or Add comment) and click an element. Best for a button, an image, a heading, a single field.
You can drag a pin to adjust it while you write.
#Areas: a whole section
Press Shift+A (or Add area comment) and drag a box around the section. Best for "this whole block" feedback: a hero, a pricing table, a footer.
While you write, you can:
- drag the box to move it;
- drag a corner to resize it;
- use the arrow keys to nudge it, and Alt with the arrow keys to resize.
An area comment takes its screenshot on its own, and so do new pins and text comments.
#Text: exact words
Select at least three characters of text on the page. A small toolbar appears next to the selection:
- Comment (or press C): the selected words are quoted at the top of your note and highlighted on the page.
- Suggest an edit (Pro): change the words on the page itself. See Suggest an edit.
If your selection starts or ends mid-word, it grows to whole words. Text comments aren't available to guests.
#Menus, pop-ups and hover states
Things that only appear while your mouse is over them close when you move to click. Use Freeze:
- Start a comment (Shift+C).
- Click Freeze in 3s in the comment-mode bar, or press Alt+F.
- Open the menu within 3 seconds. The page freezes.
- Click the item to pin your comment on it.
You can also hold Alt while you click.
When someone later opens that comment, StiqNote tells them it's on something that isn't showing right now, like a closed menu.
#From the keyboard
In comment mode, press Tab to move between elements and Enter to place the pin. Press Esc to cancel.
#When the page changes
StiqNote remembers each element in several ways, so pins stay put when the layout moves or the site is redesigned. If it can't find the element any more, the comment still shows, marked as approximate.
